Our cozy cottage looks over the village green and is nestled between the small wildlife garden and fields of cows and sheep. A gate from the garden leads directly onto a footpath and a gentle walk along a country lane will bring you to 12th Century Fountains Abbey. Our handmade country kitchen boasts a traditional stove and a large farmhouse table. French doors take you out onto our flagged terrace which overlooks the large garden. The snug lounge has a large stone fireplace, cozy wood burner and big comfy sofas. Our 3 bathrooms are beautiful with limestone walls and floors and in one, a luxurious roll top bath.
We know how difficult it can be to travel with pets or children which is why we provide the essentials (highchair; cot; push chair; dog towels; dog bowls and dog beds) to make life easy.
We sleep up to 10 in 4 comfortable bedrooms upstairs, a den with sofa bed downstairs, and a snug and secluded guest room in the garden - ideal for grandparents or romantic couples.
For small children we have a secure garden with a hideaway and bumpy slide; the village green is directly in front and is ideal for flying a kite; riding a bike or just running around. The small village playground has it’s own swings, slide and roundabout and there is a fenced in wildlife garden to explore. For older children there are plenty of single track roads to cycle and the ice-cream parlour is a twenty minute walk. Spa Gill Woods is 1/2 a mile away and is perfect building for dens and damming streams. The cottage is a perfect location to relax and let the children enjoy being free-range!
It is also a great place for socializing. The large private patio is perfect for eating al fresco and the big sofas swallow you up if you fancy a night by the fire. If you want to be busy there’s lots to do. Fountains Abbey is a half hour walk along a country lane and is a beautiful site to explore. Light water Valley is a 15 minute drive away and offers roller-coaster thrills and spills; How Stean Gorge is the site of a Highwayman's hideout and now offers abseiling, gorge-walking and kayaking. The Forbidden Corner is a wonderful folly and defies description but I heartily recommend it for the strangest day out! For walkers there is a the Ripon Rowel long distance footpath on the doorstep, literally! And of course, being in the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Beauty there is glorious countryside to enjoy, open moors; bluebell woods; lakes; crags...
The accommodation consists of; Master bedroom with en suite; 2 single rooms; 1 double/twin; family bathroom; downstairs den/bedroom with fold down bed; separate annex with double/twin and en suite bathroom; large dining kitchen; lounge with fireplace and multi fuel stove; Reception hall with sofa and fireplace with multi-fuel stove; large secure garden with patio. All mod cons including dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer and microwave.
