Hornseys Gallery Christmas Exhibition in Ripon

Hornseys Gallery Christmas Exhibition in Ripon

The exhibition opens on Thursday the 27th November from 6-9pm with a collaborative private view with the Deli on Duck Hill and Wine Rack and forms an evening of the fine and applied arts all accompanied by tastings of the Deli on Duck Hill’s renowned cheeses and festive foods and fine wines from Wine Rack. It will include new work by Ed Kluz, Janine Baldwin & Jonny Hannah, original woodcuts by William Nicholson, original lithographs by Joan Miro, wrapping papers by Mark Hearld and the Penfold Press, sculptures by Samantha Bryan, ceramics by Chiu-I Wu, Elizabeth Price, Hannah McAndrew, Alison Campbell, Michelle Freemantle, John Kershaw, Lis Holt and Stephen Plumstead, textiles by Jane Withers and Claire Austin, woodwork by Mark Barlow and Jane Cummins and jewellery by Gail Klevan, Tanya Igic, Sarah Packington, Sara Withers, Emma Turpin and Sarah McKenzie.

This is the first time that we have exhibited work by Jonny Hannah, an artist and illustrator of national and international repute. He was born and bred in Dunfermline, in the kingdom of Fife. He studied illustration at Liverpool Art School, where he was taught by the legendary Peter Bailey and then The Royal College of Art. Since he graduated in 1998, he has constantly worked as an illustrator in most fields. He has collaborated with the animator Jonathan Hodgson, and in 2000 they completed 'The Man With The Beautiful Eyes', a five minute animation for Channel Four Television which went on to win umpteen awards including the BAFTA that year. Jonny likes to spend some of his hard earned money on his cottage industry, Cakes & Ale Press, screenprinting books, posters, prints and boxed sets. In 2001 he co-published 'The Captain's Alphabet' with Peter Sampson at Merivale Editions, which like most of his fine printed ephemera, quickly sold out.

He has also written and illustrated 'Hot Jazz Special', a book of red-hot rhymes and cool cats, his first offering for children and published by Walker Books. It was shortlisted for the 2005 Victoria & Albert Museum Illustration Award. His other passions include Hank Williams and Emmett Miller at The Unquiet Grave. He often wears correspondent shoes and enjoys the odd fine whisky, whilst constantly pondering the life and times of the mysterious Rocket Man.

This, our Christmas Exhibition for 2008, marks an increasing movement towards our aims of being a gallery of national standing based in Ripon in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Numerous important exhibitions are planned for 2009. For more information please e-mail info@hornseys.com or ring 01765 602878.

LockwoodsPhotography Exhibition

LockwoodsPhotography Exhibition

This exhibition by Andrew Bayles showcases stunning photography from exotic locations around the world such as New Zealand, Laos, Cambodia, China, San Francisco, Hong Kong...and Blackpool! The exhibition also includes specially commissioned pictures of the Ripon area. Local photographer Andrew Bayles has won the Guardian Travel Photo of the Month and been featured in European and US publications.

Matthew Lockwood said, “This exhibition builds on our award by The Times as No.1 Family Run Restaurant in the UK. We are aiming to provide a great all round experience with our menu, surroundings, service and programme of events.”

Andrew trained as a graphic designer in Leeds. Last year he got married in Las Vegas and set out on a 10 month trip around the world, during which many of the photographs in the exhibition were taken. To avoid carrying a large professional camera, Andrew used a tiny Fuji Finepix Z3.

Andrew Bayles said, “The key to taking good pictures is the same as the key to good food. Keep it simple, use quality ingredients, and concentrate on presentation. Follow these rules and you can take good pictures with pretty much any camera.”

Lockwoods is open all day Tuesday to Saturday serving breakfast, lunch, coffee, cocktails beers and wines, and an exciting evening dinner menu.
