The Ripon Bonfire Is Back!

Saturday 04 October

It is great news this week as it has been announced that local businessman Brian Elsworth from Eura Audit has donated the required funds to enable the Ripon Bonfire and Firework night to go ahead with a Bonfire on the 7th November.

It had been previously announced that due to the issues with crowd control last year and the behaviour of a group of teenagers that the risks were too great to have a bonfire on the site this year. The evening was still to go ahead though with a huge firework display and a local music talent concert. The decision to hold the event without a bonfire even made it to national news being covered on the Terry Wogan show on Radio 2. This was when Mr Elsworth stepped forward to offer his help to get the bonfire back.

He has agreed to pay for the additional security that is needed to protect the crowd from any risk that may be caused by the fire, and this includes 8 foot high security fencing which will circle the fire. The members of the Gunpowder Plot who organise the annual event have now lots more work to do to finalise all the details for the event, which will now include the bonfire, but it will all be well worth it for the families of Ripon to enjoy.

Tickets for the bonfire night will soon be going on sale in local shops, so come along and enjoy what is going to be a fantastic night thanks to the support of the local businesses and community.
